Fixing A Broken Heart
Everyone experiences the feelings of having their heart broken at some time
in their lives. Maybe your spouse will cheat on you or your boyfriend may call it quits. The pain may feel
unbearable and you don’t know what to do to get over this terrible feeling. Although there is no way to just
“switch off” the pain and get on with your life, there are some things that will help you distract yourself
enough to make your healing time go by more smoothly.

- If there is a sport that you enjoy, participate
every day. A set of tennis, swimming in the pool, or anything that takes your energy and your
concentration will help keep your mind off of your misery and on other
things.
- Spend more time with friends and
family without talking about the breakup or
whatever has caused your broken heart. If you keep talking about it, it won’t take long until everyone is
avoiding you. Go to the movies or out dancing. Enjoy the time you spend with those you are close
to.
- Do all the things that used to annoy him. Any
bad habits you gave up to please him are at your disposal. Throw those wet towels on the floor and eat
the foods he couldn’t stand.
- Pamper yourself. Get your hair done, manicure
and pedicure, then buy a new, really great outfit. You are worth taking care of no matter what happened
and you will heal faster if you keep your looks at their best rather than letting yourself
go.
- Go ahead and cry. Keeping it inside won’t help
you feel better and you aren’t going to cry forever.
- Be realistic about what went wrong. After
careful consideration, you may discover that it wasn’t entirely your fault or his either. It may be that
the relationship wasn’t working as well as you wanted to believe and that it is actually for the best
that it has ended. That doesn’t mean you should obsess over it and think of nothing else. Give it the
amount of consideration it deserves, come to a conclusion, and then get on with
it.
- Break all contact. Don’t drop by his place of
work, where he hangs out, or especially his home. Even if you have agreed to be friends, seeing him too
soon will just keep you hopeful that things may go back to the way they were. You can’t get over a broken
heart if you see the cause of it on a regular basis.
- Keep a journal. You may have some really close
friends who are willing to be a sounding board for a while, but a journal will help you keep perspective
without having to repeat yourself to a friend.
- Let go. Sometimes, a breakup is all it takes to
convince a person that the person who has broken off their relationship is the only one in the world for
them. It takes two people to make a relationship work and if one of them wants out, you can bet that
person isn’t your soul mate.
